Gartner: Enterprises Should Leverage Just-in-Time for Admin Access
by Remediant, on Nov 22, 2019
We’re excited to announce that Gartner has mentioned the Remediant SecureONE platform and unique Just-in-Time Administration (JITA) approach to managing privileged access in a new report, “Remove Standing Privileges Through a Just-In-Time PAM Approach.” This report comes on the heels of Gartner naming Remediant, a 2019 Gartner Cool Vendor in Identity and Access Management just a few months ago.
For the past two years, Gartner has ranked PAM as the number one security project and most data breaches today are due to compromised, weak and reused passwords. Gartner’s new report, published in September, states, “To properly mitigate the risk of standing privileged access, security and risk management (SRM) leaders responsible for IAM should closely follow the vision of the principle of least privilege and drastically reduce, with a goal toward eliminating, standing (i.e., “always-on”) privileged access by using just-in-time (JIT) approaches. This will ensure that privileges are only granted when a valid reason for them exists, with zero standing privileges (ZSP) as the goal.”
So what does that mean for Remediant? Well, the JIT approach we founded in 2015 is now becoming the de facto standard for doing PAM right.
We pioneered the Just-in-Time Administration (JITA) approach when we realized legacy PAM solutions were failing to secure enterprises against credential theft attacks that have caused some of the most devastating breaches to date. The report highlights Remediant’s patent-pending, Just-in-Time Administration approach to solving credential theft attacks through the removal of standing privileges, which fundamentally reduces the attack surface for enterprises.
Many times, we uncover permissions that the customer IT or security teams didn’t even realize were still in use. SecureONE provides a Just-in-Time Approach that only provides privileged access right when you need it, which drastically reduces our customers’ threat landscapes. It’s very encouraging to see that Gartner values a Just-in-Time approach to PAM and is recommending that many enterprises consider it for a zero-standing privileges strategy.
According to the Gartner report, “an effective PAM practice embraces the entire concept of least privilege, granting only the right privileges to only the right system and only the right person for only the right reason at only the right time.”
As the first PAM solution to bring the ease of an agent-less and vault-less approach, Remediant’s SecureONE PAM software provides enterprises with control and insight over the distribution, usage, and protection of privileged access in enterprise environments. Based on a Zero Trust model, SecureONE ensures privileged access is precisely allocated and continuously inventoried by granting privileged access on a Just-In-Time, Just-Enough basis using multi-factor authentication.
